Instruction of Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel 15-5ph Coils

Precipitaion hardening stainless steel 15-5 PH, also known as UNS S15500 or XM-12, is a modification of 17-4 PH developed in the 60′s. UNS S15500 stainless steel has a more refined microstructure as a result of the remelting process in which it was developed. This refined structure enhances toughness, especially in the transverse direction of the material. UNS S15500 also has excellent corrosion resistance, good fabricating characteristics and low temperature hardening which makes Stainless Steel 15-5 PH the preferred alloy for many industries.

The composition of UNS S15500 includes small amounts of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, columbium (or niobium), tantalum, silicon and sulphur. 15500 can be forged, welded and formed. Machining may be performed in the solution-annealed state or in the final heat treat condition. Desired mechanical properties such as ductility and strength can be achieved through heating the material at various temperatures.

UNS S15500 is a martensitic precipitation hardening grade. Martensitic stainless steels were designed as a type of alloy which is corrosion resistant and could also be hardened through heat treatment.

Features of Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel 15-5ph Coils

1. Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel 15-5ph Heat Treated:

Heat treatments are used to strengthen 15-5 alloys. There are eight standard conditions for 15-5 stainless steel after treatment – H 900, H 925, H 1025, H 1075, H 1100, H 1150 and H 1150-M. Heat treating 15-5 PH follows the following steps:

  • Conditioning using austenite.
  • Air cooling, which turns the austenite into martensitic.
  • Precipitation hardening until the desired condition is reached.

15-5 PH can be further heat-treated when in precipitation-hardened condition to provide improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking for high temperature applications. Fabrication is recommended after the metal has been heat treated to minimize distortion and stress.

We also carries a number of other stainless steel alloys, including347 Stainless, A-286, 321 Stainless, 13-8 MO, AM 350, 17-4 PH Stainless,15-7 MO, 17-7 PH Stainless and 410 Stainless.

Marking and packaging of Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel 15-5ph Coils

The packaging of our products (eg. weathered corrugated steel, weathering corrugated steel, corten steel columnl, hot rolled stainless steel plate) ensures that they will not be damaged during transport. For export purposes, the usual export packaging is done in wooden crates or crates. All hr sheet metal, plates and coils are marked with a logo (company mark), grade, size and batch number. On request, we can customise the marking on the product, such as spcc cold rolled steel.
